Anti-Lipid Antibodies

Relatively few antibodies with specificities against lipids are known. This cannot solely be ascribed to an inherent lack of antigenicity on the part of lipids. There is increasing evidence for the presence of anti-lipid antibodies for example in individuals with HIV infections  and autoimmune brain inflammation such as multiple sclerosis. We will use stable synthetic lipids for the generation of high affinity monoclonal antibodies. Such antibodies will be entirely new tools for basic research, and, if  proven highly specific, such antibodies could represent excellent tools for clinical applications in the future. This project is carried out in close collaboration with Paul MacAry.
